Evgeny ADAMOV


By the Decree signed by the President of the Russian Federation B.N.Yeltsin Dr. ADAMOV Evgeny Olegovich was appointed to this post on March 4, 1998.

Evgeny ADAMOV was born on April 28, 1939 in Moscow. In 1962 he graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute and worked in this Institute for three years.

In 1965 he was assigned to the Moscow Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy (IAE) as an engineer and through the years has risen to the position of the Deputy Director of the Institute which was headed by Academician Anatoly Alexandrov.

While in IAE Evgeny ADAMOV directly participated in the development of a number of new special installations, headed the work on the design and development of reactor engineering support systems, made a significant contribution to the conceptual development and experimental substantiation of high-temperature reactors and power systems.

In 1982 for the successes achieved in the construction of Leningrad NPP Evgeny ADAMOV was awarded the Order “Znak Potcheta” (Sign of Honor).

In 1986 he was promoted to the position of the General Designer and Director of Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering (RDIPE) in Moscow.

RDIPE which was previously headed by Academician Nikolai Dollezhal was the pioneer in the development of the first production reactors, reactors for the first generation of nuclear submarines as well as research nuclear reactors operated in the country and abroad.

After Chernobyl NPP accident in May-August 1986 Evgeny ADAMOV directly participated in the elimination of the consequences of the accident, coordinated the activities of IAE experts and considerably contributed to the creation of the “Encasement” structure (“The Sarcophagus”).

In 1986 Evgeny ADAMOV received the degree of Doctor of Science (Tech.). He is the author of more than 100 scientific published works. His publications in foreign editions, reports at congresses, symposia and conferences as well as his lectures in the key universities and research centers of the USA, Japan, Germany and Switzerland brought him wide popularity in the international scientific community.

Evgeny ADAMOV greatly contributed to training of the new generation of nuclear specialists. He is among the founders of the Nuclear Society of Russia and one of the initiators of a dialogue with the Russian public on the problems of application of nuclear technologies.
